One Designer’s Trash/
Five Books for Five Pounds
This project celebrates the notion that we all have different ideas about worth. The aim was to start with five objects worth £1 each from a charity shop each given to an individual, with that value hidden. Each individual was then asked to exchange an object of their own choosing, of their own perceived value, back. Five objects were exchanged and photographed per day, for ten days, to get this project running.
According to the ‘Chinese Whispers Theory’ every item should be of the same perceived value, however you may flick through these books and favour some objects over others.
This represents an ongoing experiment of value, that works both as a visual and social project. The elastic band format allows for new inserts to be added to the elastic binding.
